Master Builder

Filed under: Devotional, youth — Tim Rich @ 4:45 pm

A few months ago was a time of change in my life unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Really, the last couple of months seem like a demolition exercise without the safety procedures. Like a termite infested shack whose rotting walls were standing in the way of building a cozy home, there were some things in my life which had to change. At times change was a wrecking ball which painfully demolished dear things within the house, later the clean up crew came through and gently began picking through the rubble to salvage whatever remained of any value. The rest was carted away to the landfill never to be seen again. I stood homeless clutching photo albums, friends, and what few things I could salvage. Sure, I missed that old shack, but only because it was familiar. The familiar often blinds us to the truth of our circumstances. Even though I had painted, re-carpeted and even planned to put in a new pool, my shack itself was structurally unsound.

Had I been left out on the street, I don’t know how much better off I would have been. But there was an Architect who came to me saying, “I have a better plan, this plot of land has so much potential if you’ll only trust me to build what I have in mind. These broken walls and dreams will soon be a forgotten shadow in your mind. Do you trust me to build a better foundation, a foundation strong enough to keep termites and moths from creeping into your walls and eating your goods? Your old materials were much too flimsy and your foundation full of cracks — clearly a do-it-yourself job. You can’t be a part of this project; I have to build it Myself. Do you trust me?”

Having seen His work on a few houses down the street, I knew He could be trusted. So I signed the papers, the concrete was poured, and each day I see a little more progress. I rest easy knowing I have a Master Builder.

“Do not remember the former things,
Nor consider the things of old.
Behold, I will do a new thing,
Now it shall spring forth;
Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness
And rivers in the desert.”

Isaiah 43:18-19

    I’m not exactly sure what you’ve encountered, but it sound like it impacted your life. I have been though several experiences that were so intense, not only did it change my life, but the lives of my immediate family, and had an impact on close friends.

    It all began at the age of 18 with a bullet through my brain, then at the age of 46 an extremely nasty accident that nearly killed me, due to the broken bones plus a second head injury. Because of this accident they found cancer in my body that never would have been found if not for the accident. Praise God!

    But now that I’ve gone through the gunshot experience as a teenager, which God strengthened me through; this past traumatic situation was really no big deal – even though it was in a big huge nasty. God will always use what you are going through to build you up to handle all that He has know from the foundations of the world, what you would go through, as a child of the Most High God. Our Father in His infinate wisdom, has it all handled.

    That is why we must be still and know He is God.
