» Putting away condemnation…for good~

I just had a recent meeting with two women who are both in the sweet, middle space of life (yes, in their 50’s) and it was so interesting how each of them independently during our time together shared of a constant battle with condemnation.  Both are discovering a relationship with God…both pleasant, mature women…both suffering horribly under condemnation…both needing to put condemnation away…for good! I absolutely hate it when women are being ripped off and tormented in the journey…I hate it enough to make it the subject of my BLOG tonight~  Some of the things I will write here in this post, I have read along the way, some I have discovered for myself…and all of these things I share with myself and with others when the enemy hits me between the eyes with condemnation. 

Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1) Key word NO.  For those who are IN CHRIST JESUS, therefore, there is now NO condemnation. 

Does this just mean that in every situation we are to ignore the condemnation that our flesh and the devil sends our way?  While we will yes, need to come out from under condemnation…or choose not to give ear to condemnation…but this means so much more.  Because of Jesus Christ, and our position in Him, condemnation has actually been turned away from us…entirely!  Isn’t this such great news? 

Since that meeting, I’ve been thinking about the difference between conviction and condemnation. When the Holy Spirit convicts me of something that I have done wrong, the thoughts will be something like this: “I really blew that! I was wrong. I should have thought before I said that. That was certainly not a Christ-like thing to do! I’ll go over the first thing tomorrow and make an apology. I am so thankful that He has promised to complete what He started. He still has a lot of work to do in me—that’s for sure!” In conviction there is hope—hope for changing fleshly patterns because of the power of Christ in me—hope for righting wrongs—hope for overcoming. Hope ~ Hope ~ Hope

Thoughts of condemnation will attack me—myself—not just my performance. Condemnation says that I am unfit and unusable in God’s eyes.  And if you think this is true, then just read my last BLOG post!  For example, “I am such a loser. I do everything wrong. I should not be teaching or witnessing. What an awful Christian I’ve turned out to be. I can’t do anything right.” There’s no hope in those accusations—just condemnation. Those words condemn me because of my poor performance and give birth to guilt, depression, disappointment, hopelessness, and other destructive thoughts.

The Holy Spirit, yes, will bring to our attention sinful acts so that we can agree with Him and recognize the truth that we are washed clean by the Blood of Jesus Christ.  Satan, however, makes broad, all-inclusive accusations against my person/character/integrity. God will never condemn me. Why? Because I am covered with the Blood of His Son.  Why?  Because  He knows me—my new heart, my desire to please Him, my love for Him—and He doesn’t expect me to perform perfectly, in fact He knows that I can’t!  That’s His work in me—conforming me to the image of His Son. “Conforming” means there’s work to be done—and He has promised to complete the sanctifying work that He has begun.  Hallelujah~

Because Jesus Christ died and made His Blood atonement for our sin, all condemnation has been turned away from all believers.  Unbelievers are fully condemned because of their unbelief…but as for believers (THAT IS US!)  He has completely done away with condemnation…now if we would just believe this and turn a deaf ear to our enemy as he tries to heap it on us.  There is, therefore, NOW no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. And now means now and no means no!  Thank you Father~
