Program Description
Calvary Chapel Bible College Seattle offers a two-year Associate of Theology (A.Th) degree designed for students who wish to seek God through intensive study of His Word and be equipped to serve Him. The Associate of Theology degree is an 80-credit program composed of core Bible classes, core doctrinal classes, Bible survey courses as taught by Pastor Chuck Smith, practical Christian ministry classes, and additional elective courses.Core Bible Classes: (30 credits total)
- Genesis (3 credits)
- A Gospel (3 credits)
- Acts (3 credits)
- Romans (3 credits)
- Revelation (3 credits)
- 5 additional Bible classes (3 credits each)
Each of the core Bible classes are 3 credits and reflect the emphasis that CCBC Seattle places on the word of God. Whereas different matters of doctrine may be explained topically, CCBC Seattle chooses to teach doctrine in the context of Scripture itself (i.e. we teach the book of Romans rather than a class looking at the doctrine of Soteriology).
Core Doctrinal Classes: (10 credits total)
- Hermeneutics/Inductive Bible Study (2 credits)
- Introduction to Church History (2 credits)
- Introduction to Systematic Theology (2 credits)
- Introduction to Apologetics (2 credits)
- Introduction to Missiology (2 credits)
As a complement to our study of God's word, CCBC Seattle offers five core doctrinal classes essential in the understanding of emerging Christian leaders. Each of our core doctrinal classes will give a broad introduction to the topic of study emphasized, as well as a brief look at the current events surrounding these topics, a foundation of the terms used in each topic, and training in the tools needed for further study.
Bible Survey as taught by Pastor Chuck Smith: (12 credits total)
- Old Testament: Genesis - Job (3 credits)
- Old Testament: Psalms - Malachi (3 credits)
- New Testament: Matthew - Acts (3 credits)
- New Testament: Romans - Revelation (3 credits)
A distinctive of the Calvary Chapel Bible College all over the globe is the through the Bible classes with Pastor Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa (Chuck tracks). God used Pastor Chuck to start the Calvary Chapel movement over forty years ago. Chuck tracks are our opportunity to examine the wealth of study of Pastor Chuck as we go verse-by-verse, book-by-book, through the entire Bible. (Format for the class is MP3, so an MP3 player will be necessary).
Practical Christian Ministry: (20 credits total)
- Practical Christian Service (2 credits per semester for a total of 8)
- Public Devotional Speaking (1 credit per semester for a total of 4)
- Discipleship (2 credits per semester for a total of 8)
An emphasis of CCBC Seattle is the practical side of the ministry. Too often we have seen lopsided ministers with a thirst for knowledge but without a heart to be the "servant of all" (Mark 10:44). In order to train up balanced Christians, we offer a selection of practical classes to keep the lofty ideas of theology humbly grounded in love through service. These classes include: Practical Christian Ministry (M199) which gives our students hands on involvement within ministry, Public Devotional Speaking which equips our students to communicate the truths that they are learning, and Discipleship which focuses on cultivating a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through studies of different Bible books taught by our Dean of Men and Dean of Women.
Elective Courses: (8 credits total)
- Additional Bible books (3 credits each)
- History of Redemption (2 credits)
- The Holy Spirit (2 credits)
Rounding out your degree will be an opportunity to examine different topics and Bible books as you choose. The classes offered each semester will vary and include some of the classes listed above.
