Marriage Ministry
The Marriage Ministry offers a number of opportunities for couples at Calvary to come together for teaching, fellowship and fun. The School of Discipleship (CFSD) on Friday nights offers a marriage class in the Fall and Spring quarters, with biblical teaching centered on marriage-related topics. A portion of class time is devoted to small-group interaction, and potlucks which add to the focus of couples connecting with other couples. Childcare is a part of the Fall and Spring sessions, so couples with kids often approach the marriage class as a weekly date night!
For married couples, getting to know other couples can be crucial to your enjoyment and involvement at church. That's why the Marriage Ministry offers several activities and events throughout the year to give couples the chance to meet and enjoy other couples. Several of these times are scattered throughout the year, ranging from barbecues to a yearly couples retreat. Updates on upcoming marriage ministry events are posted in the bulletin
Finally, the Calvary pastoral staff offers marriage counseling to couples seeking help in applying biblical principles to their marriages.
Pre-Marriage Class
This seven-week class is designed to help couples examine their relationship and the marriage covenant in the light of Scripture. The curriculum addresses key issues such as husband/wife roles, communication, expectations, and finances. Next to giving your life to Christ, the most important commitment you’ll ever make is marriage. This class will help you to seriously consider what that entails from a biblical standpoint. Normal class meetings involve teaching and small group discussion time. The small groups are great for discussing the topics covered in class and the homework done during the week, and for getting to know other couples. The last class is a panel discussion with several married couples. It’s an excellent opportunity to ask tough questions about marriage and to hear from folks with years of experience in working through these issues. Calvary’s Pre-Marriage Class is currently held two times each year. Completion of this class is a requirement for couples wishing to be married by a Calvary pastor. All individuals must fill out a twenty-four-page registration booklet prior to the first class.
Registration for the class is $50 per couple. Classes meet on Sundays during the 9am service. This course is held twice yearly, beginning on the 2nd Sunday of April and the 2nd Sunday of October.
